Susanne Perry M.A. in Clinical Counseling, Ph.D. in Business Administration and Economics

About:

I work best with people over 50 and under 30 - helping them overcome whatever emotional pain ails them. I mostly work with adults over 50 who have entered a new phase of their lives or relationships, are considering retirement or have retired, and realize that they need to find new purpose and passion in their lives and often their marriages as well.  I also work with young women who have difficulty with anxiety and often with young immigrant women with acculturation and integration difficulties.  I am aided by the fact that I am over 60 years old and an immigrant myself.  As for my purpose and some life experiences, here is a brief summary.  I have no high school degree and yet earned a Ph.D. in business administration.  I started as an apprentice in a glass manufacturing company in Austria and yet taught MBAs as an adjunct professor in Ohio.  But once I faced and survived cancer in my 50ies, I reevaluated my live, went back to school, earned an M.A. in Clinical Counseling and never looked back. I am currently serving as COCA's president elect. It is exciting and humbling being involved in the strengthening of the Ohio counseling professions' growth and well being. 

I always found purpose in any of my professions, which resulted in increased competence and enjoyment.  I used to wonder about that.  I now recognize that I had always been on the path of becoming a psychotherapist.  Whether working as an apprentice or as a professor, my desire was to aid in the relief from chaos and pain, resulting in a joyful and restful calmness in the people I work with.

I like a good challenge.  Always have.  I like seeing people getting support, growing and benefiting from it.  Always have.  And I love it when I have something to do with that.  Always have.
